Basic Tips
The first thing you should do when a piece of hardware begins to malfunction is check to make sure it is snuggly plugged in. Some hardware devices simply plug into a port on the computer, check there. If a hardware device has its own power supply, check that too.
So, if your mouse or keyboard stops functioning, check that it’s plugged in. If you get a message saying that there’s a communication problem with the printer or some other message saying you can’t print, check that the printer is turned on, plugged in to the power outlet, and plugged into the computer.

Make sure the mouse is plugged in snugly.

Program Not Responding Messages
This message will appear in the title bar. The program will not be responding to commands when it does appear. When this message appears, use the key combination CTRL-ALT-DEL. This allows you access to the Task List, which you can use to End Task on any programs that are Not Responding.
If the computer doesn’t respond to CTRL-ALT-DEL after a sufficient amount of time, your whole computer might be frozen and you may need to manually shut the computer off and turn it back on again.

Volume Problems
Don’t forget that most headphones and speaker systems have their own power source, on/off switch, and volume controller. Therefore if making adjustments to the volume controller on your computer’s taskbar doesn’t fix things, check speaker’s on/off switch, volume controller and check that the speaker’s are plugged in to the computer and a power outlet.
To access Window’s volume controller, click once on the speaker icon on the taskbar. Double-click on it to open the full volume controller. Make sure that neither the main volume controller, nor the Wave controller is muted or turned all the way down.
