Tomato Soup Cake

1/3 cup shortening
1 cup granulated sugar
1 can condensed tomato soup
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup raisins; optional

Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease and flour a 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 baking dish. Add baking soda to the soup while its still in its can and stir; let sit. Beat shortening and sugar, add spices and flour. Add the soup and blend well. Fold in the raisins.

Pour batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake until toothpick comes out clean ( ~ 40 minutes). Cool and frost; or dust with powdered sugar while still warm.

Good with cream cheese, vanilla, butter or caramel frosting.
