3/4 cup water; or any meat juices
1/2 cup margarine; melted
1/2 cup powdered milk
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoon sugar
1 large egg
3 cup flour, whole-grain wheat
2 teaspoon garlic powder; optional

In large bowl, mix water, margarine, powdered milk, salt, sugar, garlic and egg. Add flour, 1/2 cup at the time, mixing well after each addition. Knead for 3 to 4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make a very stiff dough. Pat or roll 1/2 inch thick, cut with canape or dog biscuit cutter. Place on greased baking sheet and bake at 325°F for 50 minutes. Allow to cool in oven and dry out a day or two until hard.

(Subst: real meat juices or canned broth for water to get Rover's attention)

(Subst: some lard for the margarine - 1/4 cup each works good)

Note: Cutters available from Chef Fido Products P.O. Box 260994 Lakewood, Colorado 80226
