Theater for and by children
and young people is an integral part of the Sumter Little Theatre. The Theatre School is the center of the youth
program providing a unique environment conducive to learning various theater
skills. In this creative setting,
students “learn by doing.” They are
involved in activities designed to develop those skills and talents that are
fundamental to theater participation and beneficial to other aspects of the
student’s life. Students learn to
appreciate the responsibility required in producing plays and they look forward
to working toward excellence both on the stage and off.
In addition to the drama
class each week, there are many other learning opportunities. Students in grades 3-12 may audition for the
youth productions and subscription plays offering parts for young actors. As students advance, they are encouraged to
learn and take responsibility in various areas of technical theater. Students also volunteer to serve as ushers
for all performances.
