Biographical Sketch
After graduation from Kinross High School I worked as a house painter for four months. During that summer, Dick Homan and I went to Cedar Rapids and tried out for the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. Needless to say, we didn't make the team.
In September of 1955 I joined the U.S. Navy and went to San Diego, California, for Recruit Training and then Corpsman School. After graduation from Corp School, I was transferred to Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. It was while stationed there for a year, that I met my wife Carolyn.
In May, 1957, I was transferred to St. Albans Naval Hospital at St. Albans, Long Island, New York, for Advanced Training as an EEG Technician. I finished my enlistment there and was honorably discharged December 16, 1958.
After my discharge from the Navy, we moved to Washington, Iowa, where I washed cars for two weeks prior to getting a job at Amana Refrigeration as a First Aid Attendant on the second shift. There wasn't enough to do in First Aid to keep me busy, so I was assigned additional duties in the Personnel Department. As the company grew, so did my personnel duties to the point where a RN was hired for First Aid.
My plans are to retire in two to three years.
Update-March 2000
There is not a whole lot new with me. We do have another two grandsons, Mike and Travis. Our oldest daughter Suzanne adopted them three years ago.
I retired from Amana Appliances on January 14, 2000, after 41 years service.
