Biographical Sketch
After I graduated in 1956, my folks moved to Washington, Iowa, and I went to work for Procter and Gamble in Iowa City. A year later I started my education at McPherson College. I graduated in 1961 with a degree in math, a minor in physics and a teaching certificate.
The next fall I started teaching at Winfield-Mt. Union Community Schools in Winfield, Iowa. During this school year I met Janice and we were married the following summer.
After two years at Winfield we moved to Adair, Iowa, where I taught in The Adair-Casey Community Schools. We stayed there for four years. During this time our first three children were born.
While at Adair I started attending summer institutes (my expenses were paid and I received a stipend). From that time till the present, I have spent two summers at Kansas State studying math, one summer at the University of Vermont studying physics and one summer at Wisconsin State, Superior, Wisconsin, studying physics. I then spent four summers attending the University of Northern Iowa earning a master's degree in Physics Education (I had to pay my own way for this one). I have since attended two more summer institutes, one at the University of Iowa and one at Central College in Pella, Iowa. I studied computer programming at both of these institutes.
After four years at Adair we moved to Washington, Iowa, where we have been ever since. After a few years at Washington, our fourth child was born.
My summers, when not going to school, have been spent doing construction work- (concrete culverts and bridges), carpentry (worked for a carpenter and built an addition to our home and my daughter's home), and worked as a house painter.
Over the years I have enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, wood-working, and tinkering with cars as hobbies. I am looking forward to retirement within the next three years so that I will have more time to spend on some of these avocations.
February 2000 Update
Since we last met the wife and I have gained two granddaughters. In 1997 I retired from teaching after 36 years. Since then I have enjoyed things like deer hunting, coon trapping, wood working, etc. I am looking forward to trying my hand at turkey hunting.
In the summer of 98 I built myself a new wood shop. This coupled with repairing damage caused by the Washington tornado kept us plenty busy for that summer.
There always seem to be a "honey do" or "daddy do" project so I don't have much time to get bored.
