The Community Training Home II (CTH II) program was established in April 1991 to provide individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to live in the community and receive individualized support services and training in the development of basic living skills and community living skills. Well-trained staff provide 24-hour supervision as needed. Residents are encouraged to become involved in community activities. They receive vocational training at Sumter Work Enterprises. The first site was an apartment in the Willow Run Apartment Complex.
The CTH II program was expanded in 1993 when SCDSNB was the sponsor for an application made to HUD to request funds to build three additional community training homes. The application was approved and the project was named Independent Living, Inc.. The residences were occupied in December 1995. These homes are located at 220 Best Street, 225 Lee Street, and 13 West Charlotte Street.
The CTH II program was expanded in January 1994 and again in April 1994 when the South Carolina Housing Trust Fund and DDSN provided funds to purchase two three-bedroom houses. These homes are located at 30 Chatwick Drive and 330 Kendal Avenue.
The CTH II program was expanded in 1994 when SCDSNB was the sponsor for an application made to HUD to request funds to build four additional community training homes. The application was approved and the project was named Abilities Unlimited, Inc.. The residences were occupied in April 1996. These homes are located at 305 Burns Drive, 978 Dover Circle, 300 Kendal Avenue, and 19 Radcliff Drive.
The CTH II program expanded again in March 1995 when two houses were built with funds provided by the Clement Hepburn Brunson Estate. The homes are named the Lucy Claire Brunson Memorial Homes (Brunson East and Brunson West) in honor of Mr. Brunson's daughter, an individual with developmental disabilities. These homes are located at 2910 Wise Drive and 2940 Wise Drive.
The CTH II program was expanded in 1995 when SCDSNB was the sponsor for an application made to HUD to request funds to build four additional community training homes. The application was approved and the project was named Adaptive Lifestyles, Inc.. The residences were occupied in September 1997. These homes are located at 2164 Avalon Drive, 1155 Briar Bend, 883 Club Lane, and 1 Sam Smith Drive. The facility at the Willow Run Apartments was closed and the residents moved to Sam Smith.
